A Harvest Party At River’s Bend

Along The Chickahominy River, Life Is Good Today

The leaves are beginning to change color at long last, as mid-October graces the Williamsburg area.  It’s late afternoon, on the cusp of another warm autumnal evening.  I’ve packed up my briefcase much earlier than usual, even traded in my business suit for a comfy pair of jeans.

After all, I’m going to a riverfront open house — with builder J.H. Fisher Construction, who is hosting a harvest party for River’s Bend at Uncle’s Neck!  “It’s no wonder that our Uncle’s Neck sales have been brisk this summer, when you consider the amazing views, the private, wooded lots, and the great location just outside town,” Liz recently shared.

Car keys in hand, I’m more than ready to relax by the river for a while.

Arriving guests are greeted with the distant scent of a bonfire.  Jumbo marshmallows await, ready for roasting to golden perfection over the crackling fire.

Walking past the impressive gate, this ‘River Girl‘ can’t help but admire the craftsmanship of its noteworthy doors and stacked stone entryway.  It’s always interesting to visit a builder’s own property, to see their quality of work in an up-close and personal way.  Sharing their homesite for our special event, The Fishers (and their friendly pups!) have made everyone feel welcome.  They’ve also graciously readied their boat, for memorable site tours by water.

Standing on the gorgeous custom dock, I enjoyed time with colleagues who were unfamiliar with the curved river before them.  The unmistakable look on their faces easily telegraphed that they’re smitten with the river’s quiet beauty.  I shared a few insights about waterfront valuation and some fun facts about how marsh grasses change with the seasons, along with tidefall and the sweep of the sunset.

Longing to simplify their lives, we talked about available lots in River’s Bend and desired access to the James River.  Couldn’t help but grin, as they lingered to take in the peaceful views.

Having grown up by the water’s edge, I’ve long recognized that waterfront living is more about a desired lifestyle — not simply a homesite’s location.  It’s about sharing the joy of home, as well as your blessings.  Spending time and making treasured memories with friends and loved ones.  Slowing down to savor the moments, not just powering through life year after year.

Up the hill and over by the bonfire, the sound of fun and laughter builds till it echoes across the water.  We look up and collectively smile.  Amen, Zac Brown.  Along the river, life is indeed good!
