Finding Your Inspiration

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words…

What moves you? Colors from favorite photos can transform into paint or fabric options…

True that, but did you know a picture can also give you terrific color ideas for your home?  In this article, I’ll show you how!

Though we all may have the same need for food, clothing, and shelter, the amazing ways it plays out in our own lives are as unique as our fingerprints.

Being in the shelter business myself, I’ve seen firsthand that one person’s “oooh, I love it!” may easily receive a “yikes, that’s not my style at all!” from someone else.  That’s all part of what makes it so interesting, it’s a process of discovery!

In less than 30 seconds, it’s quite likely you’ll get a sense of whether or not a particular house feels like ‘home’ to you.  It’s that personal… almost an instinctual, gut-level reaction.  You just know it when you see it.  Is it your sanctuary?  Your stage for entertaining?  A place to simply enjoy time with those you love?

I’ve found that transforming a house into a home often takes a leap of faith.  So, how can you get the most for your time, money, and patience?  A little planning and day dreaming helps.  And a few discounts can go a long way.  (After all, I want to keep your wallet happy, too!)

Coastal Living Magazine Cover on Seaside Style

Hard to believe it now, but this magazine cover influenced most of the color and design choices for my current home!

Whether you are building a new home or are wanting to brighten up an existing home that needs a little bit of work, it can be beneficial to think in terms of COLOR!

Our preference of one color over another may have something to do with the way color makes us feel.  Scientifically, the effect of color on our mood, health and way of thinking has been studied for many years.

Stylistically, a change of color is one of the simplest ways to lighten, brighten, or refresh a home.  It can be easy to change paint color, reflecting the times and trends.  By investing some dollars into interior or exterior paint, your hard earned bucks can go quite far!

For home sellers or real estate investors, this bottom-line gal highly recommends a fresh coat of neutral paint in shades of ‘griege’ — it’s a color hue that’s brought me a wonderful return on my investment.  (More on that very soon!)

Another valuable design idea? Get yourself a three-ring binder and fill it with pictures and design ideas you like most.  I’ve used one to organize the beautiful pages I’ve clipped from magazines and catalogs.  For meetings with my clients and home builders, it instantly serves as a portfolio of ideas at our fingertips!  Super helpful for turning those ideas into a reality, because we’re working from the same page (literally!).  By instantly texting or emailing a particular design idea or sketch, all may have a copy to work from and refer to, as we go forward.  And now that Olioboard software plays nice with my iPad, we can explore collaborative options as well!

Keeping it green and sustainable, here are a few of my favorite online resources.  Bringing you refreshing insights on color, color, color — as well as ideas and inspiration for home design and decor — I hope you’ll check it out:
